Gratitude Day 4: Family

Family: a social unit living together; primary social group; parents and children; people descended from a common ancestor

Last year around this time, I posted a photo on Instagram of me and my crew performing at an event.  Someone commented, “Down like four flat tires”.  Flat tires? Really?  Don’t get me wrong I understand the analogy but I was somewhat offended.  Why do they have to be flat, deflated, out of air, no longer usable but still trying to roll along with me?  Regardless of the connotation I didn’t care for that remark.  I guess it struck a nerve.

The truth of the matter is my husband, children and myself, we love one another hard and it is publicly evident by the way we show up for and support one another when no one else does because we don’t have that type of extended family.  Now, don’t get me wrong, we have extended family but they just aren’t supportive like that. Don’t worry, I’ll be coming back to this topic after the 21 Days of Gratitude Challenge. Right now, let’s keep it positive (insert laugh here).

There is no way to explain the love, appreciation, pride in and gratitude I have for my family.  They make me better.  They are my greatest accomplishment, my greatest asset, and accolade. We are far from perfect. We argue, raise our voices, and get on each other’s last nerve but at the end of the day, we hug long, forgive, laugh uncontrollably, rejoice and love. Bette Midler said it best. You (they) are the wind beneath my wings. I think we are that for one another depending on whose season it is to shine.  And, supporting one anther does not deplete us.  It completes us.  Thank you Amazing Family.  I love you!
