When I think of peace I think of serenity, the sound of waves in the ocean gently rolling back and forth where anxiety is washed away and calmness resides.
No matter how loud the noise, the intensity of howling winds blowing down trees beating against brick houses. I see a woman sitting warmly in her rocking chair looking out of the window unafraid of the unknown because of what she knows and it is well with her soul.
When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul
The song, It Is Well With My Soul, was penned by Horatio Spafford following the loss of his son at age two, his finances due to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 and four daughters who sank in a ship at sea (McCann 1997).
May you find the peace and assurance needed when the sea billows roll in your life?
