As we honor our veterans today I can’t help but meditate on protection and how there are times we’re unknowingly sheltered from danger. When the enemy is lurking in the shadow ready to attack, when the weapons form but nothing comes of it.
Then there are times we know without doubt protection has come our way; the reckless driver swerving on the street, the eighteen-wheeler that was going way too fast in the merging lane, and my all-time favorite, my husband, children and myself returning safely home at the end of the day. It shouldn’t be a big deal but it most definitely is.
I may have mentioned this before but my neighborhood high school does an outstanding job of honoring our local veterans. It really is a sight to see. It gives thousand of students an opportunity to thank them for their service.
There are many layers to unpack here but this post is about gratitude so for now, we’ll put a pin in it and keep it rated G.
